Blackberry Storm Review
The new Blackberry Storm is here, and my boss just got one. It came in on Friday, and because I look after the BES, I got to be the first to look at it and play around with it. My first impression was that it was small, heavy, and I found the touch part didn’t work that great. But the more I used, the more I started liking it. After awhile I got used to the weight (it’s at least twice as heavy as my current Blackberry) and I started to get a hang of the touch screen. At first I needed to go slowly, touching the screen slightly to make sure I was selecting the right thing, then pushing a bit harder to actually select (and feeling a satisfying ‘click’ when you push it hard enough, letting you know that you have actually chosen something). The more I played with it, the faster I could use it, and soon I was using it like I use my regular BB.
It has a much different layout than the BB’s I’ve used before, but I quickly got used to that as well. All of the setup options, and configuration items are the same (except for a few additions) and are located in the same areas, which makes setting it up easy.
The only thing that I didn’t like about it was that when you are holding it more horizontally, it would sometimes change to the landscape view, and I had to tilt it vertically to get it back to portrait. Other than that, it switched fairly rapidly back and forth from landscape to portrait, and everything looked good in both orientations.
Overall, I really liked this once I got used to it (which didn’t take too long at all), and I would love to get one, if I had the money. Until then, I’m stuck with my crappy old one, hoping that they do come out with a new MIKE enabled on at the end of the month.
Also, if you want to get one and you own a BMW M5, it will work with the Bluetooth car system, despite not being mentioned on their site.
